The Ultimate Sacrifice

From: http://ift.tt/1Vqbcnn

By Roger Connor

People gathered at the Walkway Over The Hudson to pay respect to those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation.

Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro and Nelson Eddy Rivera, USN (Ret), Director of the Dutchess County’s Division of Veterans Services, lead Dutchess County residents in a special Memorial Day Eve ceremony.

On Sunday evening, a ceremony and vigil was held on the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park in honor of those who gave their lives in defense of our nation. The event was held at the flag pole in the center of the Walkway and featured a flag ceremony with the Pleasant Valley American Legion and Highland Veterans of Foreign Wars. A retired flag presentation was performed, and members of Buglers Across America played “Taps.” In addition, The Hudson Valley Alumni Guard and The 20th Century Limited Drum and Bugle Corps Honor Guard paid tribute. The observance recognized the service of two Dutchess County residents, WWII veterans Danial Patrick McLaughlin and James Johnson.  The Memorial Day Observance ended with a special Sunset Illumination Vigil.
